Shigeru Miyamoto is a Japanese game designer best known for creating Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and other popular Nintendo characters and game series.

Personal views

Comments on Halo

Has claimed that he could have designed the popular first-person shooter Halo, if it had interested him. Miyamoto said: "I could make Halo. It’s not that I couldn’t design that game. It’s just that I choose not to. One thing about my game design is that I never try to look for what people want and then try to make that game design. I always try to create new experiences that are fun to play."

Lifetime achievement awards

Has received numerous special recognition awards for his contribution to video games, including being inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame (1998), being made a Chevalier (knight) of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2006), receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2007 Game Developers Choice Awards, and being made a Fellow of BAFTA at the British Academy Video Games Awards 2010.
