Personal life

Aonuma is the leader of a 40-piece band, named The Wind Wakers in reference to the Legend of Zelda game of the same name. The band was founded by Nintendo employees.

Aonuma does not play video games to relax. He told the The Guardian newspaper: "Sometimes I hear stories of other developers who play video games in their leisure time in order to remove the stresses of video game-making. I am sorry that I cannot be that kind of hardcore gamer myself."

Education

Aonuma holds a master's degree in composition design from the School of Design of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts & Music. His studies were focused on the design of marionettes. Aonuma told The Guardian newspaper: "At college, I was making wooden dolls. Not simple wooden dolls, but mechanical dolls, ones that were able to play musical instruments, able to dance."

Career

Aonuma was promoted to Deputy General Manager at Nintendo some time before June 2019, while continuing to serve as producer of the Legend of Zelda series, as revealed by the company's E3 2019 press website.

Aonuma began working for Nintendo in 1998. His first role was to design the dungeons for The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
