Critical reception

Famous fan

Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda and other major Nintendo games series, has stated that he and his wife are fans of Neko Atsume and that it inspired the iOS and Android mobile title Super Mario Run. Miyamoto said: "There is actually a game in Japan that I’ve been playing on a smartphone with my wife, it’s called Neko Atsume, It’s sort of a cat collecting game. From that, I really got the sense of having this thing on your phone that you interact with on a regular basis, and then you grow and build it up from there, is a very compelling feature."
